If I were to say that Roger Federer is the best tennis player EVER, what would you say? Would you agree or disagree?
If I were to say that Roger Federer is the best tennis player of my time, what would you say? Would you agree or disagree?
well...greatest player of al time...its gonna cause a big ruckus and debates here and there...people will say this...people will say that...people will say he never won the French...people will say that the advancement in technology enables the game today to be played easier from the days of Laver and the wooden racket...
the problem with calling someone the "greatest of all time" is that TIME itself had changed the game soo much...technological advancements had changed the game soo much...from the wooden racket to todays racket which has gel in its frames...
from the all white cotton fabric to todays climacool and dri-fit...
the best player of this era...i agree... he's been no.1 for that long for a reason...not because we all like him...its because he is that damn good
it takes more to being no.1 then just being a great player...fedex is the epitome of a champion...the way he brings himself...the amount of charity work he does for the sport...one of the best ambassadors in my opinion
there is a certain grace about the way he plays...the amount of power and placement...and never forgetting the mental toughness of fedex and his ability to always remain cool
the achievements he has gathered in his 3 yrs as champion is unmatched by any other champions in the past...
greatest player ever...quite some way to go
greatest player now...no question...
Roger Federer has 16 career Grand Slam singles titles and tops the list of Top 100 players of all time.
Roger Federer and Pete Sampras just finished a best of 3 series of tennis matches in Korea, Malaysia, and Macau.
I wonder how much they got paid. I would guess they each received 1 million dollars for the series.
Is there a sports agent, or an event promoter out there who can shed any light?
Thanks.
1.4 Million for each of them in each match so for the series they both got 3.2 mil.
what are the chances of Roger Federer regaining his number 1 ranking before the end of 2008 and finishing the year as world no.1?
Has to work hard and come out of his self-doubt.
roger federer is 26 and has 11 titles which is three behind pete sampras with the most all time, but is he really that dominant, and is the competition of nadal, roddick, djokovic, and blake really as good as agassi. Is the nadal-federer rivalry as good as agassi-sampras. Do you think roger federer will be the greatest tennis player ever, give me your opinions and give me some details?
As of this point in time, Roger, while on track to be considered the best ever, still has to break Pete's record. That being said, that's a little like betting against a Michael Jordan jump shot...yeah, he COULD miss but do you really want to bet against it?
Barring injury, Roger should surpass Pete's record. Even if he won one slam every other year for the rest of his career, he'd still break it. However, there will always be the "yeah buts" so be prepared.
If Roger doesn't win the French, someone will say, yeah he beat Pete's record but not Andre's career grand slam. If he beats Pete's and Andre's but not in a calandar year, someone will say, yeah but Rod Laver did it in proper order.
And the list goes on and on.
As far as his dominance, you can look at the point standings to see how much he outpaces everyone. Roger is 1500 points in front of Rafael. Novak would have to almost double his points to catch Roger and Andy would have to more than double.
I enjoy watching Roger, and while there are other players I would prefer to watch, the stats are difficult to debate.
Hope that was insightful. Take care.
I saw the end credits of Wimbledon and I saw Roger Federer sitting down, laughing, and talking to another tennis player. Who was it? And no, I know it is not Nadal.
Dominik Hrbaty in the first round. Hrbaty used to be his practice partner and he knew that this would probably be his last Wimbledon and so he thought it was prudent to sit with the grasscourt master for some banter before he bid his final farewell to the courts. Interestingly, he told Roger that he will be No.1 some day if he beat him in practice and it worked out that way. Hrbaty was 2-0 against Roger (head-to-head) in matches before this Wimbledon.
Gael Monfils is a very talented rising star, unfortunately beset by injuries recently, but is healthy again. Roger Federer has shown that he is not as invincible as he once was, especially of late. Does anybody want to make a prediciton here?
Rafanadalgirl and Gina D, I like the fact that you're going out on a limb and picking Monfils.
no, roger will win
6-3 6-4
